| PI: Yang Cai Members: Iryna Pavlyshak and Douglas Robertson Many historical artifacts have lost their valuable surface texture and even structural integrity. Restoring those historical structures are important to the local culture, tourism, and economy. Traditional photography, ultrasound, Eddy Current and Lidar imaging methods are not able to provide enough details in large scale and in high speed. In this project, we develop a reconfigurable 3D surface texture scanning and modeling technology for surface inspection and reconstruction. The system consists of hardware such as X-Ray, CT, laser scanner, and digital cameras. The software includes robust self-calibration algorithm, texture characterization, template matching, and performance optimization algorithms. Our projects include the reconstruction of the two hundred years old tombstones at Old St. Luke Church, Carnegie, PA, and the WWI soldier's artifacts.
